BWI Group and thyssenkrupp Steering cooperate in the development of brake-by-wire technology
BWI Group and thyssenkrupp Steering combine specific development expertise to drive innovation forward
The cooperation is initially limited to a maximum of seven years. The aim is to establish a long-term partnership
Modern steering and braking systems are essential components of future X-by-Wire chassis
BWI Group, a global supplier to the automotive industry, and thyssenkrupp Steering, a global partner to the automotive industry for steering solutions, have agreed to cooperate on the development of pioneering brake-by-wire technology. The collaboration positions BWI Group and thyssenkrupp's steering business as a Tier 1 supplier for future chassis architectures and autonomous driving.
The cooperation includes the licensing of the electro-mechanical braking technology (EMB) developed by thyssenkrupp Steering. The BWI Group will assume the role of manufacturer of the brake-by-wire system, utilizing its state-of-the-art production facilities. The BWI Group is also responsible for marketing the system in order to make this pioneering technology available to a wider range of car manufacturers worldwide. For the development of the system, the BWI Group draws on the intellectual property and many years of experience of thyssenkrupp Steering in the development of safety-relevant automotive components and software.
A notable advantage of this partnership is the pooling of knowledge from both companies. While the BWI Group contributes its expertise in the field of braking systems, thyssenkrupp Steering adds its know-how in new electrical/electronic (E/E) structures as well as its competence in electromechanical braking systems (EMB) derived from steering technology.
The cooperation is initially limited to seven years. However, the aim is to establish a long-term partnership that will focus on the development of market requirements in the area of vehicle motion control (VMC). In particular, the technical synergies of upcoming chassis solutions will be a driver for the future X-by-Wire chassis and enable the transformation from assisted to autonomous driving by improving safety, comfort and efficiency.
By working together and focusing on their strengths, BWI Group and thyssenkrupp Steering will drive innovation in an agile way to set new standards in the industry. Dr. Karsten Kroos, CEO of thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology: "With partnerships like this, we want to develop competitive solutions for modern chassis steering parts for the global automotive industry in an agile, innovative and at the same time capital-efficient way. We are focusing on synergies in technology and costs. Patrick Vith, CEO of thyssenkrupp Steering adds: "Together we want to contribute to the next generation of chassis and set standards for safety, performance and sustainability. In doing so, we benefit from our many years of experience as a major supplier in the steering sector."
